paul joins us. let's go "outfront." tonight, we have late breaking developments in the petraeus scandal. first, we are just learning the name of the fbi agent who helped start the investigation that eventually led to the resignation of the nation's top spy. the name of the agent is frederick w. humphries ii. he's 47 years old. he was the investigator who first learned of a complaint from jill kelley that she received harassing e-mails. the government has taken away for now, the top security clearance of paula broadwell, the former mistress of david petraeus. this is after investigators found substantial classified information on her computer and the glare being question, did broadwell's relationship with david petraeus give her access to these classified documents? that led to petraeus' stunning downfall. brian todd's been working the story for us and getting new information. brian, tell our viewers what's the latest? >> we found out that the house majority leader, republican congressman eric cantor, may have found out almost two weeks before the president did. this and other time lines we're following on the investigation have led to genuine anger over why the ite house and other top congressional leaders weren't told sooner. a time line cnn has put together shows the republican house majority leader may have known about former cia director david petraeus' extramarital affair before the president did. that's according to aides to congressman eric cantor who tell us he found out from an fbi employee concerned that national security might have been breached as a result of the affair. cantor was told on october 27th. president obama didn't find out about the affair until after election day. congressional leaders from both parties are upset that neither they nor the president were informed until late last week. >> obviously this was a matter invo

deeper, that fact into this plot tonight. joining us right now is "washington post" reporter sauer ri horowitz, and david woods senior military correspondent for "the huffington post." give me a sense, i don't want people to get lost before we start, let me take may own shot at this, how the whole thing is put together. let's watch. the messy and complex web begins with david petraeus. in 2006 petraeus meets paula broadwell, a west point graduate and doctoral student after giving a speech at harvard. fast forward to may of this year. another woman, jill kelley, a friend of petraeus and his wife, begins receiving harassing e-mails. she asks a friend at the fbi to help launch an investigation. the e-mails it is eventually discovered are being sent by broadwell. the fbi also discovers that broadwell and petraeus have been having an affair. meanwhile, the fbi agent who kelley approached gross frustrated after he's kept off the case. his supervisors reportedly are concerned that he has, quote, grown obsessed with the matter. it's also uncovered that he has sent shirtless photos of himself
